We are so fortunate to live on Kauai, to live in the United States of America, and to be blessed with our life, our child, and family and friends.  We are thankful for our family business and our new store Red Koi have recommitted to giving back to organizations that resonate with our beliefs.

A portion of every sale will go to "our" three causes.  Two of our charities are here on Kauai, and the other is in Gilgil, Kenya that gives us a changce reach out globally.

1.  Kauai Foodbank- www.kauaifoodbank.org

The mission of the food bank is to “Prevent hunger, provide nutritional food for the hungry, and respond to emergencies.”    The Hunger Study, 2010 reported that the Food Bank fed more than 11,000 unduplicated persons in 2009.  Our demand for food has increased 40%, out food distribution increased 37%. Product is distributed as fast as donations come in.  The economic downturn has effected our community creating desperation for individuals and families who must choose between purchasing food and other essential items.  We are dedicated to feeding Kauai's hungry especially our children and elderly that are affected.

3.  Welcome to the Wana Duma Children’s Project- http://www.wanaduma.org

Our Mission: Believing that an education holds the key to a healthy adulthood; the Wana Duma Children’s Project is dedicated to removing barriers that children in Kenya and elsewhere in the world encounter which impede their access to education. Specifically the Wana Duma Children’s Project identifies the stumbling blocks that are present for each of the children enrolled in the program. Areas such as food, housing, clothing, transportation, tuition, books and supplies are assessed individually and a practical solution offered. Our goal is to have every child that is enrolled in WDCP become a healthy, educated adult who can go into the community and continue to spread the mission of providing opportunities for education for the next generation.

We believe that an educated child that has developed good life-skills is more likely to become a steward of the environment and lay the foundation for a stronger community.

Make sure to read Susanne's blog;  http://www.wanaduma.org/category/susannes-blog/

On a personal note, our calabash Auntie Susanne helped found the Wanaduma Childrens Project and we have helped several children grow and become adults; Samuel is following one of my personal dreams of being a motorcycle/bicycle mechanic now able to financially support his family.  Hannah is a fantastic seamstress and is working on her own clothing/accessories line. If you are like me, you sometimes wonder if the children really get the benefit from the donations that you send and Susanne has shown me that they get all of it.
